The campaign I have run with this rule set has been the best World of Darkness game of my entire life. Five sessions in, two PCs have been marked for death by the prince, one kidnapped the prince’s husband and is keeping him hostage, and there is an assassin in town tasked with murdering the prince which it was, originally, the PCs’ task to stop. The rich, byzantine plots which we are currently enjoying came about as players responded to the conditions, aspirations, and paucity of experience. I have never before seen players so willing as a group to take a hit to advance the story, or willing to act against the best interests of their characters because it is what other circumstances (such as being mentally controlled by a vampire from Poughkeepsie) demand of them.

I believe that Requiem, 2nd edition is the finest edition of Vampire yet, and that this is directly because of the addition of conditions and aspirations. Good games make players and GMs better, and Requiem 2nd certainly does that. It trains players to role-play their characters deeply, and be loyal to the simulation of a dark world where the undead have powers that can warp not just the body but the mind. It very much discourages meta-gaming, and teaches GMs to let their players take the lead. My experiences with the game have been enjoyable and addictive. When game goes well, it turns the lights up brighter on the rest of your life. A boring commute is filled with thoughts of how the prince would revenge herself upon the upstarts who kidnapped her husband, for example. And Vampire: The Requiem 2nd Edition is having that effect on me now.
